Mudfords was founded in 1832 when John Mudford began his ropemaking business. Today, 175 years and seven generations later 'The Ropeman', the company's distinct logo, continues. From the nineteenth century the line of succession passed through George Mudford and John James Eyre. Early last century John Horace Mudford put his seven sons to work.The premises were then in Exchange Street, Sheffield. Eventually four of the sons set up separate businesses in Sheffield and other towns, but the old firm, a limited company since 1949 continued under the fourth son - James whose son also named James was the father of the present chairman, Richard Mudford.

Mudfords has come a long way from the early days of making rope from hand spun hemp and now manufactures or merchants every kind of industrial textile product. Our range includes purpose made covers, hand tools, tarpaulins, lifting slings, protective clothing, safety and janitorial products for general industry. We provide sheets, covers, sidecurtains, nets and load restraint equipment for the transport industry. For the construction industry: weather protection systems, roofing, general-purpose sheets, frost protection coverings and fall arrest equipment.
